Looking At Kitchen Trends For 2019 With One Of My Favourite Kitchen Suppliers, Howdens.

[AD -This post is a paid collaboration with Howdens. However, all thoughts, opinions and styling suggestions are my own.]

Whether you are thinking of installing a whole new kitchen in 2019 or just changing things up a bit, looking at kitchen trend predictions is actually a great way to ensure that you create a kitchen that you love, which also feels current and contemporary. Rather than thinking of trends as styles that go in and out of fashion in a blink of an eye, trend round-ups tend to focus on colours and materials that are elegant, stylish and therefore timeless. This is what Howdens have succeeded in doing with their new kitchen trends e-book for 2019. Spotlighting on four very different kitchen trends, Howdens can help you create your dream kitchen by identifying your core interior style.

So, what do I mean when I talk about your ‘core interior style’? Your core interior style are the colours, items and materials that you always come back to. They are the interior looks and products that you are always pulled towards and have an affiliation with, rather than if it is just seen as ‘in vogue’. However, it is often tricky to pinpoint just what your core style is and how you can achieve the look in your own home. This is where I would advise looking through the kitchen trends e-book to help guide you through this process.

Howdens ‘Urban Wild’ trend, one of the four trends featured in the e-book, is the perfect example of an on-trend kitchen design that will always be associated with good taste. A vision of metropolitan calm, 'Urban Wild' is all about intertwining urban and rural landscapes. Natural materials like wood and clay combined with muted greens and soft earthy pinks have been big interior trends for the last few years and because they connect us to our natural environment, they automatically have staying power. By adding in natural timbers and textured stone alongside soothing hues of warm whites and honey tones, you can feel like you are fleeing the city without compromising on style. The look is all very Soho House, with the most stylish elements associated with a more rural life as the basis of the design, while the overall look is affiliated with ‘chic city dweller.’

‘Urban Wild’ is a balance between the modern and the natural. In the kitchen above, the modern Clerkenwell units are painted in a super-matt grey as opposed to gloss; while bare, unvarnished wood in a natural state is used in the shelving, table and chairs. It is a very stripped back and humble look, but as you can see here it works in a modern, contemporary build.

Howdens Fairford kitchen in Cashmere, featuring pewter effect cabinet handles, blackstone and solid oak block worktop and upstand, Lamona single oven, ceramic hob and curved glass island extractor, Lamona double Belfast sink and Lamona Victorian Bridge tap. All available via Howdens.

The classic shaker-style doors seen above on the Fairford kitchen in Cashmere have an ageless, timeless quality that will never date. The soft clay colour feels modern yet native. A great way to style this design and encapsulate this look is to bring in natural, rustic and organic cookware and utensils. Purchase handmade ceramics and clay pots and display wild, dried grasses in a vase on the worktop or the table. Buy rustic wood chopping boards and sidestep plastic ones. Avoid modern, shiny kettles or toasters and instead invest in appliances in colours and tones that compliment the overall scheme. Buy natural linen or cotton tea-towels as opposed to modern, waxy alternatives.
