5 New Inspirational Interior Design Books To Sink Your Teeth Into

There has been a recent flurry of really good interior books being released in recent weeks. While we all love a Instagram and Pinterest scroll, there is something about a beautifully curated interiors book to browse through. Hardcover interior books also make great styling props in the home - place a few down flat on shelves with a candle on top, or slot a few into a decorative tray on a sideboard to create a sophisticated, full-time flat-lay.

Faded Glamour - Pearl Lowe

When I was 15 years old I was obsessed with Pearl Lowe and her band Powder. On the silvery front cover of the single ‘Aphrodisiac’ (the bands biggest hit) she was adorned in a vintage furry coat with rock star shades and throughout her many careers (rock star/fashion designer/interiors guru) what I have loved about her is that she has always remained faithful to her core style. Never swayed by trends, her love of lace and vintage fabrics is authentic and is now a look synonymous with Pearl. While this type of decor is not for everyone, Faded Glamour is a masterclass on how to mix ornate, vintage furniture with pale pinks, blacks and a heavy wallpaper pattern.

Extraordinary Interiors In Colour - Rockett St George

Far from the popular boho interiors that you find on Instagram which are all black, white and washed out, Extraordinary Interiors In Colour features bohemian, Moroccan and 70’s -inspired interiors that are bold and full of intense colourways like orange and emerald greens. Particular highlights in the book include Whinne and Tom’s terraced house in Margate with its fireplace adorned in beach shells, plus the pink Tetris-style kitchen in the Oslo home that graces the cover.

For the Love of White: The White & Neutral Home - The White Company

The complete antithesis to the Rockett St George Book, For the Love of White: The White & Neutral Home written by the founder of The White Company, Chrissie Rucker, features uncluttered, delicate interior design in a palette of white, creams and soft greys. If you have ever been into a White Company store then you will know what to expect - luxurious clean white bedding, soft flowing linens and natural wood and stone accessorises. The book features homes in neutral hues across towns, the country and the coast, with stunning photography and some great styling tips.

Evocative Style - Kelly Wearstler

If I was to pick one book in this line-up as the book you should invest it, then Evocative Style by Kelly Wearstler would probably be it. The first book by the epic American designer in 10 years, it is an absolute insight into her design process. I especially loved the idea of her ‘inspiration tray’ as opposed to the traditional client mood board. As Kelly uses so much bold pattern, texture and colour, it is interesting to read how she decides what pieces work with others when it comes to designing a space.

Above, a recent picture that Kelly put on her Instagram profile of a client project in New York. Right, ones of Kelly’s ‘inspiration trays’ that help her visualise all the materials within a project.

Who's Afraid of Pink, Orange, and Green? Colourful Living & Interiors: Colorful Living and Interiors - Irene Schampaert & Iris De Feijter

OK, so I am cheating with this one as this book came out last year and not this year, but it was a new discovery for me so I am featuring it in this round-up because it is JUST SO GREAT. Who’s Afraid of Pink, Orange and Green? is packed full of bold and beautiful interiors in pastel shades, with a lot of colour-blocking in the most imaginative of ways. There are twenty homes featured in this book that are cleverly designed with colour and haven’t been previously splashed over social media, so it’s a discovery and a delight to read. A great book for those that like to use pink, mint, blue and red in their home.
