How To Make This Easy Floral Egg Centrepiece For Your Easter Table


With just a few weeks to go until Easter, I decided to give this real eggshell, spring flower centrepiece display craft a try for it to adorn my dining table on Easter Sunday. What is great about this craft is that it is budget-friendly - the bulk of it is made from food waste and natural materials, while it is also straightforward to do.

All you need to make this craft is as follows:

  • 9 empty eggshells, cracked open at the top, rinsed out and dried.

  • 1 wood slice

  • Modge Podge or Decoupage sealer

  • Small paintbrush

  • Superglue

  • White POSCA pen, or white tippex or paint.

  • A few picked spring flowers, water, plus a candle in a glass container.

With this craft, I did have to plan ahead. I collected the eggshells from my husband’s breakfast for over a week, ensuring that the eggs were cracked only at the tip and dropping the egg yolk and white out, before rinsing out the shell.

Once I had 9 eggshells, I painted on a thick coat of Decoupage sealer both on the inside and outside of the shells, before leaving them standing upside down on the cracked edge to dry. This Decoupage glue and sealer preserves the eggshells and gives them a tough durability.

Once my sealer was dry, I used a white POSCA pen to erase any stamped ‘best before’ dates on the surface of the eggshells. If you use brown eggs or do not have a POSCA pen to hand, simply make sure that any stamps face inwards towards where the central candle will sit, so that they are not visible.

Taking my wood slice as a base, I then added a small blob of superglue to the underside of each egg, before attaching them in a circle around the board. How big or small you make your egg circle is up to you - just make sure that your chosen candle or centrepiece fits centrally before you attach the eggs.

Once your superglue is dry and your egg shells are securely attached to the wooden slice you can fill each egg halfway with water, before dropping in a selection of spring blooms. As the eggs are small, make sure that you choose delicate and small flowers: camomile daisies, muscari, narcissi and primulas all work well.

A candle in a glass vessel placed in the centre makes a good addition to the final display, but you could also add a bud vase containing bigger blooms, or dot around tiny tealights.
