You know what it's like when you have an exact image in your head of a piece of furniture or homeware that you need in your home. You scour the shops to find something just right, and sometimes you get close to perfection, but it's the wrong size, or the wrong colour. So many times i've said 'oh that's perfect, but only if it was a bit bigger', or, 'i like it, but if only it came in blue'.

Obviously I try and DIY lots of stuff in my home, but there is just some stuff that i'm not capable of making! Beds, cabinets, rugs or tables being some of them! But I'm super fussy and particular, and I often want a say in all the finishing touches of my furniture. That's why when I discovered Homeplaneur, a website that enables you to envision and totally create your furniture to your specification (from the colour to the actual design), I was intrigued. An online 'Do It Yourself' approach, with the end result being Italian branded, highly crafted, fully or pre-assembled furniture delivered right to your door, it sounded such a great concept for people who know exactly what they want, but they just don't know where to find it.

So, How Does It Work?

We desperately need a new bed. I brought our current bed over 10 years ago when we first moved into our old house. The frame has been dismantled and erected more times than I care to remember. While the slats have taken the full force of a toddler using it as a trampoline on a daily basis.

I've been keeping my eye open for a new bed for a while. I know what I wanted to have: something a bit contemporary in style, a headboard with no gaps in it (I get my arms caught inbetween the bars of our current bed, god knows if I do gymnastics in my sleep). I also want it to be a beautiful soft fabric, preferably blush pink in colour to match our soft Pavilion Gray painted bedroom. Obviously, i've not come across a bed like this so far, so I log onto Homeplaneur to take a look to see what they can offer me...

First I navigate to their starting point of bed models, of which I can choose from a range of 15. I'm instantly drawn to the Fenix bed which has an interesting square padded headboard:

Homeplaneur offers a number of images of the Fenix at a variety of angles; 3D images and a detailed video, so I can really get a feel for what the bed will look like in reality. It also has detailed descriptions of the bed and the technical info. Yet what I particularly like is the information on where in Italy the bed will be made, and a video on how the bed is upholstered so you can really see the craftsmanship going into the beds production.

I'm convinced! Now I just need to design the Fenix to my exact specification. As well as the width and depth of the bed, I also get to choose if the frame comes with added underneath storage. I choose my preferred headboard height (out of a choice of 3). I pick to have my bed made of fabric rather than leather (or eco-leather), the type of feet i want, and then of course the colour of the bed! The colour range is wide with multiple options for colours under all fabric types.

For my bed I choose a luxurious tall headboard in a washable velvet in blush pink - perfect! To save money I don't go for unneeded storage space or more expensive feet. I check a 3D image of my bed, then click my order which will be sent free delivery to the UK!
