The Best Christmas Bauble Decorations For 2020
One of the most exciting pre-Christmas rituals for me is to buy a couple of new baubles. Every year, I like to make a minimum purchase of at least two to add to my expanding collection. Budget-friendly and often treasured for years to come, I find a bauble pick-me-up the perfect addition to my seasonal home decor. That’s not to say that every year I don’t confidently declare that ‘this is the year where I do a styled tree’; imagining my living room all Instagrammable, colour-coordinated and chic. Yet, as I unwrap the ‘best of the baubles’ from years gone by and the memories of those years come flooding back, the tree remains a happy mish-mash of all my favourite decorations, and I resign the styled tree idea to the following Christmas.
This year there are some absolute corker decorations available and below you’ll find just under 50 of the best baubles around for Christmas 2020:
Scandi paper decorations were huge last year and are going nowhere this year. I feature a few in this round-up which are all lovely for different reasons (colour and shape, mainly). These ribbed paper decorations tend to be a bit expensive, so last year I wrote a blog post on how to make them. However, if you don’t have the time and fancy buying some without breaking the bank, then Dunelm are selling these onion decorations for £1.50 each!
The biggest tree decoration trend this year has an ‘under the sea’ vibe: shells, jellyfish, oysters and fish all feature online and in the shops. By far my favourite for this theme are these pretty lilac and pink clam shells with a dainty pearl placed inside. Buy both colours for £20 via Amara.
Independent store W.A. Green is the place to buy the best Xmas tree decorations. For an ‘early years’ Britney Spears bauble or this incredible Bjork bauble, click here!
I’ve made no secret of my love of dried flowers this year, so I was delighted to find these pack of four glass eggs filled with dried blooms from Cox & Cox :
As a DIY blog, I couldn’t not include the DIY tool baubles available at Hobbycraft. As well as a drill, there is also a tape measure! Perfect for the handy person:
If kitsch really isn’t your thing and you prefer a more designer Christmas, then these painted burgundy and brown baubles from Ferm Living will add a contemporary edge to your tree:
There is something about bird decorations at Christmas: pheasants, robins and peacocks have all graced my tree in the past. This paper and MDF bird via Nordic Nest ticks all the (bird) boxes:
2020 hasn’t really been a ‘normal’ year, has it? If you like a tree decoration which represents the year just gone, then look no further than this brilliant glittery hand sanitizer via W.A. Green. Hopefully, when you get it out again in 2021, 2020 will be a horrible, distant memory!
Marble never goes out of style and will always be classy and contemporary, so any tree would look fabulous decked in marbled baubles. The good news is that there are quite a few marbled baubles available this year - The Range are doing a great budget option for £1.69 each!
Another trend this year is for velvet-covered baubles with a luxurious look. Buy them in tones of peach, burgundy and brown to bring a warm Scandi feel to your tree:
One of the themes for John Lewis for Xmas 2020 is the ‘Art Of Japan’. These fan and doll decorations are too cute to pass up:
Food and drink baubles get more creative every year. This ‘Northpole Brew’ is great for the craft beer lover, and the cheese board from Paperchase is impeccably detailed.
With warm neutrals and monochrome continuing to be a trend in interiors, match your room colour palette to your tree with these sophisticated decorations:
If you prefer delicate and vintage, then the artisan glass baubles inspired by victorian sugar-sweet moulds via The Shop Floor Project are just perfect:
Selfridges have prioritised personalisation this year. When it comes to important members of the family - don’t forget the dog! Get your pooches name on a glass bone so they know just how special they are:
