Interior Wall Art Trends For 2020

Interior wall art trends 2020

The start of a New Year can always stir up a desire to change up your home and give it a slight refresh. While new furniture is expensive, you may not have the time nor the inclination to repaint your walls. So, just how do you give the rooms in your home a whole new, on-trend look and mix it all up a bit? Quite simply, the quickest and most effective way to switch up your home decor is to add in new framed prints, posters and art, which will completely revamp any space.

There are a number of key interior wall-art trends for 2020 that are predicted to be popular in our homes this year and there is a style to suit everyone, from minimalist monochrome lovers to maximalist colour enthusiasts.

Below, I have listed 7 of the top wall-art trends that are expected to be embraced in interior design for 2020:

Line-Drawn Faces

Abstract, line-drawn faces became popular in interiors at the end of 2019, but they will be HUGE in 2020. Expect to find them printed on cushions, towels, vases, throws and on wallpaper, but they look most sophisticated as framed pieces of art. The whole look is very stripped back Californian cool and works particularly well in light, white and neutral interior settings. Style with pale pink and earthy-coloured accessories, with a vase full of Pampas grass placed nearby.

Biophilic

There is a huge focus on Biophilic Design (where the natural world is brought indoors via the interiors) for 2020, as we all crave more of a calming, peaceful environment that reduces stress and helps us relax. Green is set to be the biggest paint trend colour this year and the sale of houseplants has skyrocketed, but it is also possible to embrace Biophilic Design via the pictures and artworks that adorn our walls. Images of natural landscapes, flowers, plants and greenery are not only aesthetically pleasing, they connect us to the natural environment and give us a sense of well-being. Biophilic art also requires a lot less responsibility if you are the sort of person who forgets to pick up the watering can each week!

Maps & Locations

In the same way that Biophilic Design is an interior art trend that focuses on the connection with the homeowner, it is becoming more popular within home and interior design to add artwork that is personal and sentimental to those who own it. In the same way that clothes and fashion signify who we are inside as people, our homes are a reflection of ourselves and should depict our experiences.

Posterlounge do a wide range of desirable framed maps and stylish artworks which represent locations, cities or countries that you may have visited on holiday, or with which you hold a special memory or resonance. They are a great way to personalise your space in a contemporary manner, without resorting to using holiday photos or large-scale landmark imagery.

Japandi

Japandi is another huge trend within interior design for 2020. A great way to bring this style into your home is with Eastern-influenced prints with a modern, Nordic aesthetic. The art should be devoid of much colour and kept to a relatively monochrome palette, but should nod towards traditional Eastern influence and symbolism. Pair Japandi posters and art with contemporary Danish furniture and accessories to add a twist to the often rigid, stripped-back minimalism of Scandi interiors.

The body

There is a lot of flexibility with this trend - body art can be traditional oil paintings, hand-drawn sketches or colour-blocked shapes. As long as it is a body silhouette, then anything goes. Prints of Matisse’s Blue Nudes have been used a lot in recent, popular interior schemes by large-name designers and the trend has caught on from there.

Sweary and Edgy

Trump, Climate Change, Brexit - there is a lot of anger and frustration at the current political landscape and this is being reflected in a preference for more edgy and sweary prints and artwork. While maybe not to be found in the average family home, the disaffected modern young renters are adorning their walls with typography that has a slightly comedic undercurrent to lighten the intention.

Curves

Curves, circles and arches adorned every product or piece of furniture at the design-led trade shows towards the end of 2019. Sharp, straight lines are out and smooth, soft curved shapes are in abundance. While a gorgeous curvy sofa may be completely impractical as it takes up all the space in a modest rectangular living room, an abstract piece of curvy-shaped art adds this trend into a decor scheme without compromise. Posterlounge sells a range of curved prints and artworks, from the more Scandi in style to full-on 90’s Miami colour-pops.
