DIY Autumn Door Arch Home Decor Idea — MELANIE LISSACK INTERIORS

I used to love decorating a floral seasonal mantel, but since last Christmas, I’ve really gone to town decorating my front door due to the positive feedback that I receive from my neighbours! My doorscape at Easter was mainly built from artificial flowers and foliage, so for autumn I got everything out of the loft and reused all the same faux stems - just swapping out the blue delphiniums and large magnolia heads for some faux lanterns and proteas purchased at Dunelm. I also used a hefty amount of real tree branches where the leaves had turned red and orange.

I re-erected the same wooden structure that I built for my Christmas door, then I wrapped a number of artificial garlands around the wood to create a base that I could tuck all the faux stems in to. All the flowers from Easter still worked fine for autumn (such as the mimosa and champagne blossom branches). I just made sure that everything was an autumnal colour palette of yellows, reds, oranges and browns (light pink and white also worked).

If you like this look but want to create something on a smaller scale, this autumnal door wreath is really easy to make! Simply take a wreath base, some floristry wire to wrap around the base to keep the florals in place, and a small bunch of faux or dried flowers (here, I used one bunch of this faux witch hazel and a few dried stems I had lying around).

Everything will last the season as no water is required (the real foliage will survive with the morning dew, but even when it goes crispy it will still look good). Later on, as we near Halloween, I will add lots more pumpkins to the steps and add some spooky cobwebs to the florals!
