The New Striped Tile Collection From Bert & May
Everyone has fallen back in love with stripes this summer and to celebrate the stripe, Bert & May - leaders in supplying carefully curated wall and floor tiles - have just launched their new Striped collection: encaustic tiles available in three different stripe widths and over 40 colourways.
Handmade in Spain, the Striped collection of Wide, Midi and Skinny stripes are constructed from crushed marble, using traditional tile-making methods for extra strength and a long-lasting finish.
Like their popular Ric Rac tile collection (designed by Samantha Todhunter), Striped offers a multitude of layout options where the thinner stripes can be used alongside thicker ones to create borders and pattern definition. Bert & May founder Lee Thornley says: “We have always believed tiles are the perfect way to introduce pattern and personality to a space, and my favourite thing about our new Striped collection is that they can be tessellated in a multitude of ways to create unique and personalised designs. The choice of colour can also dramatically affect how they look. We love encouraging our customers to be confident with colour and pattern, and the different widths and custom colours of the new Striped tiles gives people a chance to put their own twist on a classic.”
If you are considering using striped tiles in your own home, stripes work particularly well in rooms with low ceilings; when laid vertically, they draw the eye up and create the illusion of a taller space. If used across the floor, lay them in the direction that needs elongating, or, towards a key feature (such as a freestanding bath) so that the eye follows the lines along to the main focal point.
Wide, Midi and Skinny Striped tile 20x20cm: £6 per tile, £150 per sqm (incl. VAT), available now via Bert & May. All images in this post belong to and are used courtesy of Bert & May.
