How To Style a Mediterranean-Inspired Table Setting

When the sun shines, I like to try and embrace that ‘holidaying at home ’ experience to make the most of those (rare) summer days! I recently styled a Mediterranean table setting for a social media campaign, so I thought I would share my tips and ideas on how to embrace that ‘dining in the Med’ experience by carefully selecting the right style of dinner, serve and glassware.

Yellow, blue, white and earthy orange tones are the colours that I navigate to for a Mediterranean table setting. These colours replicate the colour of the sun, the sea and the painted white Grecian buildings that can be found in popular Med destinations.

For patterns and prints, I take inspiration from the Mediterranean diet: vibrant lemon designs evoke memories of drinking limoncello in the sunshine, while serveware depicting olives, tomatoes or fish is a nod to a traditional Mediterranean menu. I also look to Med-inspired ceramics with hand-painted designs, replicating authentic pottery pieces made in Portugal, Greece and Italy.

For plates and cups, use well-made, thick stoneware designs that look organic and handmade. Glassware in soft blue tones complements the tablescape, while I also love coasters and side plates featuring intricate patterns that replicate the designs found on Majolica tiles.

I loved this wavy blue table runner from Homesense which reminded me of the Mediterranean sea.

Make sure to include lots of serveware bowls for salads, olives, feta and flatbread. Oil bottles and large hand-painted jugs full of yellow flowers add to the Mediterranean scheme. For styling, group fresh lemons on the table that add scent, as well as lifting all the colours on the table.

I sourced all of these items in my local Homesense, but do also keep an eye on your local charity shops or even better, pick up a few things to bring back when you next go on holiday!
