We all earmark IKEA as the place to go to get cheap, 'need it right now' furniture that is basic and functional. Yet in recent years IKEA has been moving up a level - working with highly revered designers to create incredible, but still amazingly affordable furniture. After talking briefly to Kit Neale about his SPRIDD collab with IKEA last year, he highlighted that IKEA's quality control meant that his collection with the Swedish power-brand took two years in the making. It is obviously IKEA's dedication to their designs that has attracted top name designers to collaborate with them on design-led, but affordable, collections. The much publicised Tom Dixon collection DELAKTIG will make its way into stores at the beginning of next year, while super-hip French multi-brand retailer Colette are currently working with IKEA on a new partnership.

Sooner to the shop floor is the collaboration with Danish husband and wife design-duo HAY, which goes in-store in October. HAY's beautifulpieces can usually be found in high-end, intimidating Scandinavian or designer home ware stores. While not being overtly pricey, they do not sit in the 'high street price range' bracket either. The good news is that they have just designed a range in collaboration with IKEA called YPPERLIG, which means we can all now afford a bit of HAY's exquisite Danish design in our own home.

The collection includes a wide variety of products, from larger pieces such as sofas and coffee tables, to smaller accessories like candle holders, cushion covers and wall mirrors.

The little metal wall mirrors below come in a range of colours and sizes, and have the convenient feature of a small shelf at the base. As they are humidity resistant, they can be hung in bathrooms - making them perfect for holding make-up or items like tweezers in. According to HAY: “We didn’t want to do something that was just a marketing stunt, but something that was beautiful, well-made and usable. Really good products made by IKEA and sprinkled with a bit of HAY.”
